Jarosław Niemiec

Jarosław Niemiec is a Polish musician and composer playing various ethnic instruments from the Caucasus, Turkey, Iran, North Africa, The Middle East and India. He is also the founder of the oriental metal band Saratan, which has released 5 full-length albums.

Jarosław Niemiec was born 1985 in Cracow, Poland. He started playing the piano and the guitar in the primary school. In 2003 he founded his first band – Saratan – which still remains active. The same year he started Oriental Studies at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland. The main topic of his studies was traditional Persian music and it’s vocabulary. In 2006 he started collecting ethnic instruments – the first one, Tar azeri, was brough by him from Baku, Azerbaijan. Until now his instrument collection grew to more than 40 instrument from Iran, Turkey, the Caucasus, India, North Africa and the Middle East.

In 2020 Jarosław Niemiec started his solo career, focusing on playing traditional instrument from Asia. Usually he composes acoustic music, close to the traditional genres, but he also mixes the traditional instruments sounds with the modern genres like dark ambient, metal, electronic etc. He records guest instrumental parts for the various bands and projects. He focuses on the following instruments; santur, tar-e azeri, saz, baglama, shourangiz, rubab-e kashmiri.

 

In 2022 he won the Creative Scholarship of the City of Krakow.
